Grooming our own Design Star

Warming to the task at hand, Heather has reimagined the look of this post and sent me an updated photo of herself. What design sense :-) Get voting, folks. We have work to do.

Okay, I know I'm a sap. We all know I'm a sap. Still, Design Star's finale just about did me in. Matt and Jennifer, my two favorite contestants all season long, had to design and execute a kitchen/dining room/living room remodel for two families left in shambles after Hurricane Katrina. The father of the first family is a police officer; the father of the second family is a firefighter. Lots of good design, quick construction, and hugs of appreciation. It was all more than I could take.

Meanwhile, I want to encourage you to go over to hgtv and vote for one of these deserving contestants. As I said, I love them both, so I'm voting for Matt in the hopes that Heather will have a better shot of winning when she competes next year ;-) You know, the whole girl/boy/girl pattern that tends to be established in these kinds of reality shows. A woman won last year. My thinking: If Matt wins this year, voters will be more likely to think it's a "girl's turn" next year.

So here is our mission:
One - vote Matt the Design Star of 2008.

Two - convince Heather to apply to be the Design Star of 2009.

Three - once Heather is a contestant on next season's show, contact everyone you know to VOTE for her :-)

Easy as pie, right? Meanwhile, if you want to have a good cry, watch some of the HGTV highlights from this past season and especially last night's finale (which is the recap of episode 8. You can find it the box to the side of the voting area). It's more effective than Terms of Endearment.

AMY!!!!!!!

For the record, I've already voted for Matt once and plan to vote again today. I like Jennifer, too, but I think her voice is a little much for tv. I only got to see the reveals last night and loved what they both did. :-) They were my favorites from early on.

Now, about this whole Design Star grooming thing - after seeing that picture you posted I've established the first order of business: Hit the treadmill. HARD. Nonstop for 6-8 weeks.

Then we'll talk. ;-)

ps - thank you for your vote, Clay :-)

Talk shmalk. Treadmill shmeadmill. Just think how the pounds will melt off when you're doing all that heavy lifting and demolishing :-) So let's plan your audition video. Ideas, lurkers? :-)

Ofcourse I am voting for Heather too, but this year I gave my vote to Jennifer she has such a presense on the TV. According to the weekly poll, Jennifer is winning. She is my favorite. I love Matt too, but Jennifer is a great artist and I love her wall paintings.

What weekly poll? Get voting, dear readers. We now need to offset the treacherous Maddie's votes.

The weekly poll on the site that tells you who this weeks favorite desighn star is! Dont you dare TRY to make my Jenny lose!

Okay, I LOVE the idea of Heather being on this show next year. How cool!!! Amy, you are truly a visionary. Heather, you would be fantastic - people would love you!
Unfortunately, I haven't seen any of the show this season, but I will try to catch it in reruns (which are plentiful at this time of year). I'll vote for Matt based on your recommendation. :)

design, spelled that wrong. Whoops!

Kerrie how could you! *cries in a corner*

Okay, I sense momentum. The family will start putting mild pressure on Heather to make her audition video. I'm with Kerrie. This is the first season I watched the show and each episode I couldn't stop wondering how Heather would tackle the challenge. I knew she would have a creative solution, would charm the judges, her competition and the audience and would be well on her way to being one of the final two! Come on, Heather, go for it!

Pressure, Pressure, PRESSURE!

Andrea and I are both supporting Jennifer! There is no reason there cant be to girls in a row!

Take that Mother!

I agree that Heather should go for it. And, as a "weight challenged" person, I will simply say that nothing motivates more to lose weight than knowing that in a matter of weeks or months you will be ON NATIONAL TELEVISION. So, Heather, put your hat in the ring, then, when you get the call (if not before:)), you can hit that treadmill!

Amy said...

And, Dana, what national television show should we attempt to join?!

Maddie said...

DONT FORGET THE LYRICS!

Amy said...

I agree with Maddie, Dana. Let's get you on "Don't Forget the Lyrics." It can be the year of the game/reality show for our family :-) Kerrie and Carlos should join The Amazing Race. It will be fabulous.

I, of course, will cover all of the action on my blog. ;-)

Great ideas - Scott for "Top Chef"!!!! Amy & Dana should definitely go for "Don't Forget the Lyrics" and I hear Ebert & Roeper are hanging up their popcorn boxes (which leaves the field wide open for Clay). Kerrie & Carlos would blow the doors off "Amazing Race". Let's get crackin'!!

Maddie - there is the whole boy-girl-boy-girl pattern on many of these shows. Think of my future!

Thanks for all of the votes of confidence - I love the show and already think I'm famous, so I guess I'm well on the way. Well, I'd need a visit with my favorite videographer - any ideas for an audition tape? Sheesh - this IS a lot of pressure.

Why don't you come on down to Hollywood and redesign our playroom/guest room! We'll give you a budget of one hundred dollars and 36 hours (plus room and board :-) What do you say?

:-)

Be careful what you ask for... I could do it ya know ;-)

Amy said...

Oh, I know. That's why I'm always careful what I ask for.
You don't scare me. Do it ;-)

I know there is a boy girl pattern. I hope Matt will win for your sake, but I still want Jenny to do somthing with her amazing talents

You all are cracking me up!
I love the updated picture of Heather (you look so nice), and I think you'd be great for TV. It's on!

As far as Carlos and I joining the Amazing Race, we have seriously thought about it a few times. We get hung up on who would do the challenges. I don't have the stomach for the ones that involve eating gross stuff and he's more likely to be successful at the physical challenges than I am, so we're kind of stuck. Still, it could happen....

I think I'd have a better chance on the Next Food Network Star... What do you think? Heather could be the Design star and I could be the Food Network Star - we'll take over the networks! Actually, I shouldn't joke about it - Heather actually has a shot at this and mine is a dream...

And Dana, what about "The Singing Bee?" You could show that Joey guy what's what! :-)
